On Wednesday evening, authorities with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency were called out to a fatal crash in Deatsville, Alabama, roughly 200 miles south of Chattanooga. According to first responders, a man was ejected out of a truck on Highway 111 shortly before 6:00pm when his truck left the road and flipped.
Law enforcement confirmed with Local 3 News that the victim in that deadly crash is 54-year-old Matthew Palmgren.
Eyewitness News has obtained a 911 call, recorded on April 30th, just hours before Gail Palmgren would go missing.
Local 3 News spoke with a woman who witnessed the crash. She wanted to remain anonymous.
"He was in the ditch between one house driveway and the other, parallel to the road... He hit the second driveway which was concrete. So, he went airborne into the air," said the witness.
The witness said she stayed on scene while first responders worked to help Palmgren, however he was pronounced dead. Troopers add that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Matthew Palmgren was married to Gail Palmgren, who went missing in May of 2011 from their home in Signal Mountain. Records obtained by Local 3 News detail that police were called to the Palmgren house three times for reports of domestic disorder prior to Gail's disappearance.
After Gail was reported missing, public scrutiny grew against Matthew, as close friends of Gail spoke out about their relationship. Seven months later, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office found Gail's body and her crashed jeep over the side of Signal Mountain near East Brow Road. Investigators believe her death was an accident and added that she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
